About Dan Whitehouse

“That’s Where I Belong” & Limited Edition 4 EP series out now on Reveal Records.

Dan Whitehouse is an English singer/songwriter who’s beautiful, classic sounding songs have been described succinctly as ‘Black Country Soul’. New album ‘That’s Where I Belong’ is a major artistic success that caught the attention of national radio producers and live promoters alike. Dan has already performed more than 50 concerts and multiple sessions in support of the album during the last 12 months.

The songs on the Danny George Wilson produced set are confident, confessional, cohesive and engaging. Since it’s release in 2016 Dan has been busy building his audience yet further with a mix of headline shows and meaningful supports (often with label mates Eddi Reader, Joan As Police Woman, Kris Drever and Boo Hewerdine).
Whitehouse plays a ten date October 2017 co-headline UK tour with Jess Morgan before finishing the year with a headline show in Wolverhampton.

Dan is currently recording new material for his second Reveal Records album and has issued a series of limited edition tour only CDEP’s including “Sings Boo” a collection of songs Dan has covered written and co-written with songwriter Boo Hewerdine.

"Sensational!" - Tom Robinson, BBC Radio 6 Music
“delicate voice and subtle melodies”- THE TIMES

“A Triple threat, a fine songwriter, a unique vocal talent and a talented multi-instrumentalist/performer” MAVERICK

His early musical life was shaped by his radio DJ father’s vast record collection and whilst at University in London Dan soon picked up session guitarist work for signed acts, playing stages including Reading and Shepherds Bush Empire. In tandem with his own songwriting, Dan has given back by teaching and working as a music therapist. Playing music, often on customised instruments in schools, hospitals, and care homes and working with teenagers with learning difficulties and foster children. Dan can offer workshops alongside his concerts or festival appearances and is available for residential songwriting retreats.

Dan performs solo electric / acoustic or with a band (trio). Larger lines up’s are available and Dan is always open to collaborations and sessions.

In 2015 and following a series of home recorded releases Dan was invited to perform at Bristol Colston Hall as a duo with Lapsteel legend BJ Cole. Playing on the bill with Mark Kozelek and Tinarewen for Lau’s festival curation, Whitehouse was introduced and later signed to Reveal Records.

That’s Where I Belong
Ear-worm opening track ‘Nothing’s Gonna Change It’ has a shuffling beat and tasty Hammond riff that Al Kooper (Dylan’s organist) would have been proud of, the song taking off with 60’s soul style Sax riff while Dan’ s vocal opines optimistically ‘were gonna make it through’. There is a strong positive energy to many of the songs such as ‘Work’ (about earning a living to keep body and soul and family together). Whitehouse shows his emotive and contemplative side too with ‘Close Up’ featuring whispered pedal steel, and ballad ‘The Little Left Unsaid’. The album closes with ‘The Left Handed Way’ a song written by cult American songwriter Geoff Farina (Karate). That’s Where I Belong is a stunning batch of songs, an album that shouts from the rooftops and whispers from the depths without over staying it’s welcome.
